Hyderabad: Traffic-police arrests 26 parents for allowing their kids drive
The Hyderabad traffic police put 26 parents in jail for allowing their minor kids drive, Joint Commission of Traffic Police, Anil Kumar said. 20 parents were arrested in March, and another six this month, told Kumar. The strict action comes after a reported increase of minors driving. In February, 45 parents were jailed and 1,079 cases registered by the traffic police.
Cases are filed against owners of vehicles and parents
"Nobody is supposed to drive the vehicle without driving license. The cases are not only filed against the minor drivers but also against the owners of the vehicles and also parents," Joint Commissioner of Police Dr. V. Ravinder said.
Hyderabad traffic police taking steps to keep minors off road
Arresting parents of minors is not the only step undertaken by the Hyderabad police to prevent kids from driving. They also launched compulsory counseling sessions for both parents and kids. Along with this, quick registration of FIRs is also being done. Anil Kumar said letting minors drive not only puts their lives at risk, but others too are prone to danger.
Drunk engineering students kill man sleeping on pavement
Earlier this month, four second-year students of engineering drove a vehicle on a sidewalk, killing a cobbler who was sleeping on the pavement. CCTV footage revealed the girls left a bar before the accident. The police said the girl behind the wheel wasn't drunk, though.
