Steps to change your Voter ID address to another state
Assembly elections are due in several states this year, while the 2024 Lok Sabha polls are less than a year away. It is time to gear up to exercise your right to vote, for which eligible voters must have a valid Voter ID card. In case you have shifted states, you can apply for a change of address for your Voter ID. Here's how.
Why should you update your address for Voter IDs?
When you move states, your name must also be transferred from the electoral roll of your previous assembly constituency to that of your new assembly constituency. Notably, an eligible voter can only cast their vote in the constituency where the electoral roll carries their name.
Documents needed to change permanent address on Voter ID
In order to change the permanent address listed on your Voter ID card, you will require the following documents: 1) A valid proof of address such as a driving license, passport, ration card, etc. 2) A valid identity proof such as Aadhaar, PAN Card, etc. 3) Two latest passport-sized photographs. 4) A copy of the existing Voter ID card (both sides).
How to change your Voter ID address online?
Visit the official website of the Voters' Services Portal. Click on the "Fill Form 8" link, and sign up or log in using your credentials. Enter the required personal and constituency-related details. Upload the necessary documents, viz. identity proof, address proof, passport-sized photographs, and copies of the existing Voter ID. Finally, verify the information provided by yourself, and submit your request.

In order to change the permanent address on your Voter ID card via offline mode, you can either download "Form 8" from the aforementioned portal or visit your nearest electoral office. Fill in the required details and submit the form along with the necessary documents.
