#HealthBytes: How to protect yourself from winter rains
As if the chilly winter in itself wasn't enough, the unseasonal rains in various parts of the country, in the last two days have made the weather freezing cold. Further, the unexpected rains pose a serious health threat, by throwing us a greater risk of catching cold, cough, and other infections. Here's how you can protect yourself from the winter rains.
Avoid heading out; Cover up if you do
Exposing yourself to the chilly winter rains is nothing short of an undue invitation to bad health (read- cold, cough, and fever). So, as far as possible, avoid heading out during the rains, and seek shelter in your blanket. Opt working from home, if you can. Nevertheless, if you can't keep from heading out, cover yourself well and use an umbrella and raincoat.
Bundle up!
Whether you choose to go out or to stay at home, not covering yourself well is never a good idea, if you want to stay safe from cold. Wear warm, heavy clothing, and try to cover as much of your body as you can. Be it gloves, socks, caps, scarves, jackets- take them all out, in order to play safe.
Eat warming foods
What's better than grabbing a hot cup of tea, and your favorite book, while it's dropping heavily outside? Turns out that's exactly what you have to do to stay safe from the winter rains. Eat comforting, hot food items to stay naturally warm, inside out. Some of the best options are eggs, dry fruits, and sweet potatoes. Teas and soups are also great.
Use heat; See your doctor
Use heat: The last thing you'd like is to catch a cold or fever, and stay home-bound for days. So, charge up your heaters, or use a fire, if you must, so as to stay warm. See your doctor: If you anyway end up getting a cold or cough, do see your doctor as soon as possible.
