#HealthBytes: Tips to avoid getting fat during the lazy winter-season
Winters can be a risky period of time for your fitness goals. This is mainly because as the temperature starts to fall down, so does our motivation to go out and workout. Studies also show an increased degree of mood swings, slower metabolism, and considerably high chances of us resorting to overeating. Here are tips to help you manage weight during the lazy winter-season.
Don't forget to workout!
As the temperature starts to fall, and the chilly winds begin, it becomes increasingly challenging to hit the gym or go out for a run. This, however, is the biggest roadblock to your fitness regime, during winters. Continuing to workout as usual is crucial to burning calories, thereby in avoiding getting fat and maintaining your shape.
Eat for the warmth; Stay hydrated
Eat for the warmth: It is wise to eat the right food, keeping in mind the seasonal demands. During winters, this means eating more warm food. Look out for soups, winter greens, and quality meats to stay healthy. Stay hydrated: We often drink less water during winters. Aim for atleast 8-10 tall glasses everyday. Drink at regular intervals to avoid dehydration.
Eat the right fats!
The good fats help your body absorb the required nutrients from your food, and aid in weight loss. Further, healthy fats also improve nervous system's function, and boost mood. So, get in more healthy fat sources and let go of fats from processed and junk food. Give a try to olives, almonds, avocados, coconut oil etc. and avoid oily, fried and junk food.
Assure yourself enough quality sleep, regularly
During the cold weather, our body's metabolism slows down, and we need more sleep. So, assure yourself a daily dose of 7-8 hours of quality night-time sleep, to stay healthy. Apart from giving your body relaxation, this also helps you in avoiding unnecessary midnight snacking.
