How to get Voter-ID card ahead of Lok Sabha elections
With the 2019 Lok Sabha elections just two months to go, it's time to gear up. Apart from the candidates and campaigners, voters should be equally ready. As part of the preparation, all eligible citizens must apply for a Voter ID card, if they don't have one. Here's all you need to know about online Voter ID card application.
Who is eligible to apply?
All Indian citizens who have attained the minimum legal age of 18 years, as on 1st of January of the year of application, are eligible to vote, and can therefore apply for a Voter ID card. The applicant must be of sound mind, free of any criminal charges, and should not be facing financial bankruptcy.
List of documents required
For a new Voter ID card application, following documents are needed: 1) One passport-size photograph. 2) Any valid age proof, such as Birth certificate, Class 5/8/10 Marksheet, Indian Passport, PAN card, Driving License, or Aadhaar card. 3) Any valid address proof, such as Passport/DL/Water Bill/Electricity Bill/Rent Agreement, etc. 4) A duly filled age-declaration form, in case the applicant belongs to 21+ age-group.
Procedure to apply for Voter ID online
First off, log on to the official website of the National Voters' Services Portal. Then click on 'Form 6' link, ie. for registration of new voter/due to shifting from AC (Assembly constituency). On the next page, fill up necessary personal and residential information. Next up, upload the required documents. Finally, check the declaration, enter the Captcha code, click on 'Submit' button, and you're done.
How to track your Voter ID application status online
Post successful submission of your application form, a Tracking reference ID will be issued to you. So, in case you wish to check your application status, log back on to the NVSP portal. Then on the homepage, click on 'Track application status' link, enter your reference ID, and click 'Track status' button. Your application status will flash on the screen.
