#HealthBytes: Tips to help you get up early in winters
During winters, when mornings are dark and insanely chilly, letting go of your comforting and warm bed sounds like an almost impossible task to accomplish. But, deep down, you know you shouldn't be doing this. For, you'll end up ruining your day- by missing your workout session, or showing up late for work, and so on. Thus, here are 5 tricks to help you get up early in winters.
Stating the obvious: Get sufficient sleep
Getting up early isn't just a morning concept. The process starts from the previous night itself. Because, to wake up early doesn't translate to forcibly kicking yourself out of the bed, and staying sleep-deprived. Getting your essential daily quota (7-8 hours) of sound sleep is necessary. So, do the math, and hit the bed at least 7-8 hours before you need to be up.
Pave way for light
Our body's circadian rhythms work in a way that makes us stay awake during day and helps us doze off, when the lights are out. However, just as you can use artificial lights to stay up late, you can also trick yourself into getting up early by switching on the lights in the room. And why not? The world runs on manipulation!
Warm yourself up; Have something/someone to look forward to
Warm-up: Other than darkness, the other thing that might keep you from getting out of your cave on a winter-morning is low temperature. So, to deal with it, you might consider turning on the heater, or performing stretches/light exercise. Make plans: Psychology tells us that making a prior commitment to someone, or having something to look forward to, is great motivation for getting up early.
Tip#5: Put your alarm out of reach (Cliche, but works!)
For most people who try to wake up early, it's the getting-out-of-the-bed part that's the toughest. Once, you're up and moving, your chances of staying awake are higher. So, you might consider the cliche advice of putting away your alarm clock out of reach.
