#HealthBytes: Five ways to naturally delay premature ejaculation
A common sexual dysfunction among men, premature ejaculation (or early ejaculation) affects nearly 30% of them, irrespective of age or ethnicity. However, with persistent efforts in the right direction, it can be dealt with, without you having to rush for costly, side effects-inducing medications. Here, we explain premature ejaculation, and five ways to help you deal with it naturally.
But firstly, what exactly is premature ejaculation?
As the name suggests, premature ejaculation (also called early ejaculation) is a condition in which a man rapidly ejaculates after sexual stimulation (usually within less than a minute), leaving the partners dissatisfied, further leading to frustration and distress in their sexual equation. Many emotional and physical factors could be responsible for PE, including performance anxiety, exertion, stress, depression, relationship issues, among others.
How long should you ideally last?
In a study concerning 1,500 men, The Journal of Sexual Medicine reported the average time between penetration and ejaculation to be 1.8 minutes for men suffering from premature ejaculation, while the same was 7.3 minutes for others.
Pelvic floor muscle training
One of the most effective ways of dealing with premature ejaculation is to perform pelvic floor muscle training. These muscles help support and control the penis. Notably, weakness in them often leads to premature ejaculation. Furthermore, for most men, these muscles get weaker with age. Thus, performing pelvic muscle exercise, by strengthening these muscles, can reduce the likelihood of premature ejaculation.
Try slowing down a bit; Experiment with the 'stop-start' method
Slow down method: This method requires the man to slow the pace of pelvic thrusting, and varying the angle and depth of penetration right before the point of ejaculation. Pause-Start method: As is evident from the name, this method demands the man to completely halt the penile thrusting for a couple of moments, and then resume again. This may help delay ejaculation.
Try the squeeze method; Seek expert medical assistance
Squeeze method: To perform the squeeze method, one will have to withdraw the penis right before the point of ejaculation, and then squeeze the head of the penis until the ejaculatory sensation passes. Once it goes, intercourse can be resumed. This method is effective, but cumbersome. Seek help: In the end, if nothing works for you, consult your doctor.
