Gallup International Survey: Modi ranked 3rd; ahead of Trump, Putin
PM Modi adds another feather to his cap. Gallup International's annual survey "Opinion of Global Leaders" has put him at number three among world leaders. He trounced US President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu among others to emerge victorious. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron were ranked first and second, respectively.
What is the Gallup International Survey?
Gallup International conducted the survey in 55 countries. About 55,000 persons were interviewed globally. In each country, about 1,000 people were interviewed either face-to-face, via telephone or online from October- December 2017. Seventy-year old Gallup International is a market research organization.
What is the significance of this ranking?
Since becoming PM, Modi has been globe-trotting, selling India's potential throughout the world. He has often broken practices/protocols while meeting foreign heads of states, even extending his friendship. His efforts may have borne fruit. Interestingly, Modi is extremely popular in South Asia, with Afghanistan's and Bangladesh's population quite fond of him. Further, this ranking supports BJP's projection of Modi being an international diplomacy czar.
