Maharashtra: Can house helps go to work amid fresh restrictions?
In the wake of the stricter curbs imposed by the Maharashtra government on Tuesday, one of the biggest concerns for residents is whether house helps would be allowed to work during the period. Bringing relief to them, Iqbal Singh Chahal, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Commissioner, has clarified that employees are free to go to work at residences. Detailed guidelines will be issued, said BMC Commissioner
Chahal said, "Will my house help come, is the question many Mumbaikars have asked from the time the janata curfew was declared. I have received several calls for this. BMC will issue detailed guidelines on this tomorrow." Meanwhile, BMC Additional Commissioner Suresh Kakani said they will issue a fresh set of orders as clarification on Wednesday.

"We will explain which works or services can remain open during the period. The break the chain restrictions will come into effect from tomorrow 8 pm. We will issue our orders before it," Kakani said, according to PTI.
Stricter curbs in Maharashtra from today until May 1
Last evening, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray put an end to speculations that there would be a complete lockdown in the state. He, however, informed that stricter curbs will be enforced from 8 pm on Wednesday until 7 am on May 1. Section 144 will be imposed while non-essential services and public spaces will remain shut during the said period.
Maharashtra reports over 60K new COVID-19 cases
CM Thackeray also announced a relief package as part of which the state government will reportedly provide three kg wheat and two kg rice free of cost to the poor and needy people for the next one month. The curbs were announced on a day when Maharashtra reported 60,212 fresh coronavirus cases and 281 more fatalities.
The COVID-19 situation in India
India has been witnessing an unprecedented surge in daily new COVID-19 cases for the past few weeks. In fact, the country yesterday reported 1.85 lakh fresh infections, the biggest single-day spike yet, taking the nationwide tally past 1.38 crore. 1,000 more patients died in the past 24-hour period, pushing the death toll to over 1.72 lakh.
