'Probe not into...samosas': Himachal CM's clarification after CID gets involved
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has issued a clarification after the Crime Investigation Department (CID) launched an investigation into cakes and samosas wrongly served to his staff. The incident took place on October 21 when refreshments meant for Sukhu were inadvertently served to his security staff. The snacks, including samosas and cakes, were ordered from Hotel Radisson Blu for the CM's visit to the CID headquarters.
CM Sukhu refutes media portrayal of CID probe
Responding to the controversy, CM Sukhu explained that the CID probe wasn't about the samosas but official misconduct. "The probe was about the misbehavior of officials but the media has turned the CID probe into samosas," he told ANI. He also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of running a smear campaign against his government ever since Congress won the assembly election.
Inquiry report reveals details of 'samosa' incident
The inquiry report into the incident found that a senior officer had asked a sub-inspector to get refreshments for the CM. The job was then assigned to an assistant sub-inspector and a head constable, who brought three sealed boxes from the hotel. Confusion ensued when tourism department staff were uncertain if these snacks were for Sukhu, and served them to his security staff instead.
BJP criticizes Sukhu's administration over 'samosa' controversy
Following the fiasco, the BJP latched on to this incident to attack Sukhu's government. Party spokesperson Randhir Sharma said, "The state government is not concerned about the development of the state. Their only concern seems to be the 'Chief Minister's Samosa.'" The CID probe found that those involved in the incident behaved in an "anti-CID and anti-government," due to which the food items could not be served to the VVIPs.
