#HealthBytes: Five things you should do right after sex
A healthy and satisfying sex life is crucial for a couple's overall mental, physical, and emotional well-being. After an intimate session with your partner, getting out of the bed might be the last thing you want to do. But for the sake of your own sexual hygiene and health, you must do these five things right after having sex.
Do: Take a trip to the bathroom
A general rule of thumb to ensure post-sex hygiene is to take a trip to the washroom and urinate, right after having sexual intercourse. It will help wash away any bacteria that may have come close to the urethra during intercourse, and might further move in and infect your kidneys. So, always make sure to urinate before and after sex.
Do: Wash your hands
If there is one part of our body that is most prone to catching bacteria, it is our hands. From all the touching, of course. Talking about touching, sex means our hands are going to go places. So, it becomes vital to wash your hands both before and after sex, to get rid of bacteria that might come from touching genital area during sex.
#3: Sip some water
If you sweat a lot during sex (which is, of course, natural), you might as well consider getting some water into your system, right after doing the deed, in order to eliminate risk of dehydration.
Do: Clean it down there
Goes without saying, both the partners must clean up their genitals, right after intercourse. Health experts suggest that men must clean the area around the penis as well as the glans and inner skin, using a mild soap and warm water. Women should take a washcloth, and use warm water and soap, to clean up the outer vaginal area to prevent bacterial spread.
Do: Get new under-garments and bedding
In simple terms, you just want to steer clear of any bacterial contact, as a result of sexual activity. That's why it is generally recommended to get up and change your underclothing with a new, fresh pair. Keep them handy, if that's motivation enough. Also, dump the used sheets into the washing machine, and get a new one to reduce risk of bacterial contact.
