Aarushi Talwar murder-case: Hemraj's wife challenges Talwars' acquittal in SC
In a new development in the sensational 2008 Noida double-murder case, the widow of Hemraj -the domestic help who was killed along with Aarushi Talwar- has moved the Supreme Court to challenge the Allahabad High Court's decision to acquit Rajesh and Nupur Talwar in the case. The dentist couple was acquitted as there was not enough evidence against them. Here's how the case proceeded.
Hemraj's wife says Talwars are involved
The Allahabad HC's verdict says that there was no direct evidence or witness to prove that the Talwars were guilty and the CBI failed to establish a valid motive. Hemraj's wife, Khumkala Banjade, earlier said HC accepted that her husband was murdered; so the investigators cannot abandon their responsibility to uncover Hemraj's murder. She had alleged the Talwars were involved in the murders.
Rajesh, Nupur Talwar sentenced to life by CBI court
Meanwhile, the CBI has not yet decided whether to appeal against the Talwars' acquittal to the SC. The CBI investigated the double murder case after Uttar Pradesh Police botched up the investigation. A CBI court held the Talwars guilty in 2013, sentencing them to life imprisonment. However, on 12 Oct'17, the Allahabad HC acquitted them, ending the nine-year ordeal of the dentist couple.
Had no doubt that Talwars would be acquitted: Khumkala
After the Talwars' acquittal, Khumkala said she wasn't surprised but rather saddened that the Allahabad HC let Rajesh and Nupur Talwar walk free, cancelling their life sentence. Though she isn't sure whether Nupur was involved, she believes Rajesh is guilty of the double murder. Hemraj's family members had reportedly been planning to move the Supreme Court for some time now.

In a recent interview, Khumkala said: "The focus has always been the death of Aarushi. Who cares about the death of an innocent man? No one really talks about giving justice to my dead husband. We are praying for a miracle...we have no options left."
