Punjab issues red alert in view of heavy rain
Punjab government today issued a "red alert" in the wake of heavy rain in the state and has asked district authorities to maintain vigil, an official said. Punjab has been witnessing widespread rain for last two days and the downpour continued today, prompting state authorities to review preparations to tackle flood-like situations. District control rooms have been activated for fast response and the Army has also been alerted, the spokesman said, adding, district authorities in catchment areas of rivers have been asked to make sufficient arrangements of boats for rescue operations.
