UPPSC Prelim answersheets to be re-evaluated
The Allahabad HC has asked the UP Public Service Commission (UPPSC) to re-evaluate answersheets of the 2017 UPPSC Prelim after the Commission reportedly made some alterations to the questions. One question was deleted and answers to two questions changed. Petitioners had moved the court, saying their answers were correct and more appropriate than the ones published by the UPPSC in their answer key.
14,032 Prelim candidates declared eligible for Main
Initially, the UPPSC had advertized for 251 vacancies, but it was increased to 677 by the time the Prelim was held on September 24. 2,46,654 candidates appeared for the exam. In November, it uploaded the answer key and called for objections. Results were declared on January 19. 14,032 candidates were declared eligible for the Main, to be held from May 17.
Many would have succeeded unless the UPPSC made errors: HC
Petitioners argued if they had been awarded score for 14 questions of the general studies paper marked incorrectly in the key, they would have qualified. The HC has now ruled re-evaluation. If those declared eligible earlier do not qualify this time, they wouldn't be allowed to proceed further. It noted that the petitioners and many others hadn't succeeded due to errors by the UPPSC.
