#CareerBytes: Alternate options for candidates who did not clear GATE

    What's the story

The results of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2019, conducted by IIT Madras, were declared on Friday.

While it is a moment to celebrate for candidates who have successfully cracked GATE 2019, others who have not cleared the exam must now focus on other opportunities and career options.

Here are some options for those who haven't been able to clear GATE.

    #1

Appear for Non-GATE government job exams

GATE is one of the most preferred exams among undergraduate candidates to join NITs, IITs, and secure PSU jobs as well.

However, candidates who have not been able to clear GATE can apply to various jobs for which separate exams are conducted. Some of the Non-GATE jobs include those at AAI, ISRO, BARC, BEL, ECIL, etc. for which exams similar to GATE are conducted.

    #2

Join institutes, universities that conduct their own entrance exams

Candidates who have not qualified for GATE can also join institutes and universities that have their own entrance exams for postgraduate programs. They include BITS Pilani, IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT Bangalore, CSIR, DAIICT, and ISI Kolkata among others.

So, even if a candidate has not been able to crack the GATE, they can join postgraduate courses at such institutes or universities.

    Information

#3: One can get admission in IITs/IISc for non-GATE courses

Those candidates who have not cleared GATE can also join prestigious institutions like the IITs and IISc. They can take admission in some of the post graduate courses at these institutions that do not require the GATE score.

    #4

Or, candidates can give GATE another try

Many candidates who haven't qualified for GATE often think it's the end of everything. However, instead of feeling dejected, it's important to focus on what is to be done next. If they don't want to go for other options, they can give GATE another try.

They should analyze and understand why they haven't cracked GATE and work on weaknesses before appearing for GATE again.

    Information

#5: GATE not mandatory for IBPS exam

Alternatively, people who have not cleared GATE can also appear for banking exams as GATE score is not mandatory to appear for IBPS examination. They can also join private companies and simultaneously prepare to appear for GATE again instead of dropping a year.
