Haryana: Female IAS officer alleges sexual assault by senior
A female IAS officer posted in Haryana alleged on Sunday her senior sexually assaulted her, writing a detailed Facebook post. In her post in Hindi, the victim claimed her boss assaulted her for 'writing dissenting notes on documents'. However, the senior rubbished the allegations, and said the woman officer was only asked to correct her mistakes in official files.
Victim alleges senior asked staff to stay away from office
The 28-year-old officer alleged that on May 22, the senior asked her why she had written adverse comments on files, and threatened to spoil her Annual Confidential Report (ACR). Then, on May 31, he apparently called her to his office and asked the other staff to stay away. Alleging immoral behavior, the woman said the senior then made comments that made her uncomfortable.
His behavior seemed immoral: Victim
"He asked me to stop writing adverse comments on the files. He told me that like a newlywed bride, she has to be explained everything, and he was explaining to me in the same manner. His behavior seemed immoral," she alleged.
On pretext of 'teaching' her, accused allegedly tried touching victim
The victim said things later got worse. On June 6, the accused called her to his office at 5 PM and asked her to stay till after 7:00 PM. Then he "asked me to get up and come closer to his chair". "On the pretext of how to work on the computer, he tried to come close and touch me," she said.
After Facebook post, senior rubbishes the allegations
After the allegations surfaced, the senior rubbished them saying it was his duty to teach junior officers things. "We tried to provide all facilities to her. She didn't even have a room for her office and I asked my staff to provide one," he said. He claimed the woman officer was never alone with him in a room, except for a few minutes sometimes.
Meanwhile, woman officer has sent email to President's office
The woman said she has shot an email to the President's office after the incident, lodged a complaint with Chandigarh Police and flagged the issue with responsible authorities. She alleged her police security has been withdrawn. The matter is under investigation.
