Man offers woman help in finding job, later rapes her
In a horrifying incident, a woman was allegedly raped in a hotel room in Punjab's Mohali district on Wednesday. As per the woman, the accused, Swaran Singh, offered her help in finding a job and later, raped her in a hotel located in Phase 1 of Mohali. The police have arrested the accused and he has been sent to judicial custody. Here's more.
A relative introduced her to Singh last month
According to the woman, who hails from Haryana, she visited Mohali last month. During her visit, one of her relatives introduced her to Singh, who is a resident of Muktsar Sahib but stays in Sector 40, Chandigarh. "I wanted a job and the accused promised me to help. He asked me to come to Mohali on May 21," she said.

She further alleged that Singh told her "that he would arrange my meeting with a woman who would help me in finding a job." Later, the two met at PTL chowk, waited for an hour but no one came. "Following which the accused told me that the woman whom we wanted to meet called him to a hotel in Phase 1," the victim added.
Case under rape and criminal intimidation sections was registered
In her complaint, which was filed a day after the incident with the Phase 1 police station, she accused Singh of raping her in a room in the hotel. He also threatened her of dreadful consequences if she divulged the details. A case of rape (Section 376) and criminal intimidation (Section 506) was registered against Singh under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
