Gurugram: Chilling-story of man who killed, raped minors for 'shauk'
In what qualifies as a gruesome crime, a 20-year-old man raped and killed nine girls, aged between three and seven, in Delhi'>New Delhi and three other cities. The accused, identified as Sunil Kumar, was arrested on Monday after the rape of a 3-year-old in Gurugram slum pointed police towards him. After interrogation, shocking details related to the case came to the fore. Here's more.
Backstory: A 3-year-old was raped, stick inserted in private part
The rape and murder of three-year-old alerted authorities. Reportedly, Sunil lured the victim by promising her chocolate. The post-mortem report revealed a 10-cm long stick was inserted in her private part. The forensic expert said the child died due to a head injury and excessive internal bleeding. "Multiple bruises were found on the victim's shoulders, waist, chest, and back," he added.
Nearly, 1200 cops came together to arrest the accused
After the police zeroed in on the accused, they launched a massive manhunt to nab him. For this, 1,200 cops across Gwalior, Jhansi, and Delhi worked closely. Finally, the accused was arrested from Jhansi and handed over to Gurugram police. He confessed to raping and killing at least nine minors in Delhi, Jhansi, and Gwalior. The accused said he committed crimes because of 'shauk'.
Before arresting him, police questioned his family
Catching Sunil was, however, not easy. He had come to Gurugram a few days ago and was living with his mother and sister. When the family members were questioned, they revealed he mostly ate at langars, worked as a daily-wage laborer and slept outside. They mentioned places in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, which he visited and this helped the police.
From NCR, Sunil went to Jhansi, was arrested there
From NCR, Sunil went to Magarpur village in Jhansi on November 16 to meet few acquaintances. When police got a whiff of it, they formed teams which left for Gwalior and Jhansi. "Two teams each left for Gwalior and Jhansi and were scouting bus stations and railway stations for possible," Raj Kumar, sub-inspector (SI), crime branch Sector 39 said. He was arrested near a temple.
Before attempting rape, he broke legs of victims: Police
A court sent Sunil to eight days of police remand on Tuesday and noted he didn't have a lawyer yet. Later police officials revealed the pattern of his crimes and it is shocking, to say the least. Public relations officer Subhash Boken of Gurugram police said, "He used to first break the legs of the victims before attempting rape. Then he would murder them."
Police failed to nab him before, but succeeded this time
Further, Boken added Sunil, who is jobless, used to lure victims by offering them food and used to abduct them. He used to target community kitchens which distributed food to needy, police said. Police have linked him to three cases of dead children and are investigating other cases. Notably, he managed to evade arrest in two similar cases in Gurugram from November 2016-January 2017.
