Humanity dies: Man rapes his three-year-old daughter, arrested now
On Friday, Gurugram Police arrested a man accused of raping his three-year-old daughter. The horrific rape incident had taken place a month earlier, and following the rape, the man had fled his residence and had been absconding up until now. He has now been booked under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Here are the details.
A bit about the POCSO Act, 2012
The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was enacted in 2012 to safeguard children against sexual assault, sexual harassment, and pornography. The Act is gender neutral, and recognizes forms of penetration apart from penile-vaginal penetration.
The man raped his daughter after an argument with wife
The incident had taken place on the night of October 28. Reportedly, the man got into an argument with his wife, and the argument had turned ugly. Subsequently, the wife left their residence with their one-year-old daughter, leaving the elder one at home with the man, who was in an inebriated state. The man then raped the three-year-old.
The girl was found unconscious and bleeding
When the wife returned the next day at around 10am, she found her elder daughter unconscious. The bed sheet was stained with blood, the three-year-old was bleeding from her private parts, and had a high fever. She then rushed her daughter to a hospital, and lodged a police complaint against the man who had, by then, fled from the house.
The accused had initially denied the allegations
Upon reaching the hospital, doctors confirmed that the girl had been raped. Since her condition was critical, she was referred to the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. For his part, the man denied the allegations after police arrested him, but confessed to raping the girl later. He is a resident of Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh, said the police.
