Gurugram: Motive behind shooting judge's kin unclear, constable isn't mentally-unstable
Constable Mahipal Singh, who shot at the wife and son of Additional Sessions Judge in Gurugram on Saturday, is mentally stable and the motive behind his actions is still unclear, HT reports. Ritu, the wife of the judge Krishan Kant, succumbed to injuries, and their son Dhruv is still battling for life. Singh, who is a head constable, was nabbed two hours after the shooting.
During investigation, Singh called Dhruv and Ritu devils
Gurugram police's spokesman Subhas Boken said a city court sent Singh to four days police custody. He informed Singh was quite aggressive in the initial hours of interrogation. Singh told police he saw Dhruv and Ritu as 'devils'. On further probe, he claimed devil meant dirty people. The constable, who has been serving the judge for some time now, was terminated from his services.
No difference between cop and dog, Singh tells during interrogation
Boken dismissed the reports which claimed Singh was mentally unstable. Singh told cops he was ill-treated by Dhruv and forced to run his personal errands. According to FIR registered on judge's complaint, Singh got angry on Saturday when Dhruv asked for car's keys. "He said that 'There is no difference between a cop and a dog," an officer privy to the probe said.
Singh had estranged relationship with wife, spent hours browsing Internet
Reportedly, Singh fought with his wife and they had grown estranged. "He had phoned his mother after he shot Ritu and Dhruv," an officer said. Police also learned that Singh used to spend four to six hours on the Internet daily. He had two Facebook accounts in name of 'Mahipalji', and regularly saw videos of religion. He has two daughters.
Case registered under IPC Section 307, Arms Act
A case has been registered under IPC Sections 307 (Attempt to murder) and Section 27 of the Arms Act at Sector 50 police station. Police are also speaking to Singh's wife and mother as part of the investigation.
