Yet another rape: Gurugram businessman arrested for raping daughter's friend
A 45-year-old businessman from Gurugram's DLF Phase 5 was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping his daughter's 18-year-old friend when she visited their home on Thursday. Notably, the suspect was arrested within three hours of the police receiving the complaint The suspect lives in a rented apartment at the high-end Belaire complex, and has been staying in Gurugram for the past eight years.
Details of the incident
The businessman's daughter, who studies abroad, had come to India for the summer holidays, and had invited her school friend for a sleepover. The man, who's wife was out of town, had taken both of them out for dinner and drinks and had returned home "sloshed". After his daughter fell asleep, he allegedly took her friend to his room and raped her.
The victim was also threatened into keeping quiet
"The victim has told us that he was sloshed when they returned home...He locked the room and raped her. He also threatened her not to share the incident with anyone," said Poonam Hooda, station house officer at the women's police station where the victim complained.
Businessman charged for rape, criminal intimidation, and more
The incident took place between 4am and 5am on Friday morning, following which the victim and her mother lodged a complaint with the police around 12 noon. A case was registered against the man under Sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 328 (causing hurt by means of poison). The victim's statement was also recorded, and a medical examination was conducted.
