Two Fortis Gurgaon cardiologists arrested for gross medical negligence
Two senior doctors attached to Gurgaon's Fortis hospital have been arrested today for gross medical negligence that resulted in the death of a 51-year-old woman last year. The woman was admitted on May 12 with chest pain and 8-hours later, she died of cardiac arrest. Medical board report says Dr Suryanarayan Murty and Dr Vajja Nagaraju didn't administer a pivotal medicine to prevent cardiac-arrest.
Seema was fully conscious when admitted, RCG showed abnormalities
The patient, Seema Ghai, was fully conscious when she was admitted to the hospital with chest pain around 1:35am. Her ECG, performed 10-minutes later, showed abnormality. "She suffered a cardiac-arrest at 4:20am and was put on life-support in ICU but no doctors accompanied her," said her husband Mukesh. The medical board report claimed that Dr Nagraju 'ignored the report of the patient's cardiac enzymes'.
Docs told Mukesh wife recovering, even as she lay dead
The cardiologist while admitting his fault to cops said he didn't administer the anti-platelet medicine to arrest cardiac-stroke. Seema's angiography at 9 AM showed '100% blockage in left anterior descending artery' and she was declared dead at 9:48am though doctors told Mukesh that she's recovering.
Doctors delayed administering pivotal life-saving medicine to patient
Seema's husband Mukesh, who works as AGM in RITES Ltd, registered a complaint against four doctors last year, after which the district medical board initiated an inquiry. On the basis of that report, a case was registered at Sushant Lok thana under IPC-section 304 (causing death by negligence) on February 20. They'll be produced in court today. Meanwhile, Fortis said they are cooperating with authorities.
