Five held for looting cigarettes worth Rs. 14 lakh
Five people, including two juveniles, allegedly involved in the loot of cigarettes worth Rs. 14 lakh from a private company in Greater Noida have been nabbed following a gunfight with police, the officials said on Friday. Three of the accused got injured in the gunfight that broke out near the Dadha roundabout in the Beta 2 area late on Thursday night and were arrested.
Accused attacked the security guard with a knife
Greater Noida Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Kumar Singh said, "These people had targeted a warehouse of a private company on Wednesday night and attacked a security guard with a knife. They had decamped with a Tata Ace pickup truck loaded with 14 cartons of cigarettes which cost around Rs. 14 lakh." An FIR has been lodged and further proceedings are underway.
Three accused hail from nearby village, one was an ex-employee
"Three accused, Kapil and other two named Rohit, got injured in the cross-firing. All three hail from Ghodi Baccheda village in Greater Noida and Kapil worked in the same company until a year ago," Singh said. The injured were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Cartons have been recovered, country-made pistols and ammunition seized
Singh said that the police had got a tip-off about the gang moving with the looted material during the night and intercepted them, leading to a gunfight. "All cigarette cartons have been recovered, while three country-made pistols along with some ammunition were seized from the accused trio," he said, adding the two juveniles involved in the loot were also apprehended.
