Gujarat teacher, now US citizen, still on school's payroll
A teacher from Gujarat who is now a permanent resident of the United States is still receiving salary from her school in India, officials and parents alleged in a complaint. Bhavnaben Patel, a head teacher at Pancha Primary School in Gujarat's Banaskantha, relocated to the US in 2013, but is still listed on the school's roster despite her prolonged absence.
Patel's annual visits to Gujarat coincide with school holidays
Patel reportedly visits Gujarat annually during Diwali, a period when the school is closed for holidays. However, during these brief visits, she does not attend school or interact with students. They claim that they have not seen her in two years. The situation has led to complaints from parents and school staff, who have reported the matter to education officials.

Parulben, the in-charge teacher at the school, mentioned that she had informed education officials about Patel's extended absence after it came to her notice. In response, primary education officer stated that Patel last visited the school in January 2023 and has been on unpaid leave since the start of this year. A show-cause notice has been issued against Patel, and officials are pursuing disciplinary action.
