Four medical students suspended for kidnapping, assaulting juniors in Gujarat

Four senior students of the Government Medical College Bhavnagar in Gujarat have been suspended. They allegedly kidnapped and beat up three junior students.
The incident reportedly arose out of a dispute during the college's convocation ceremony.
According to the police complaint, two groups of students had been divided during the 2019 batch's convocation, creating a rift between them.

The police complaint has elaborated on the alleged incident: the accused students had called the three juniors to a location, then forcibly made them sit in a car, verbally abused them while driving around the city, and physically assaulted them.
They were also allegedly threatened during the ordeal, prompting them to approach law enforcement for help.

College's anti-ragging committee takes swift action
The juniors complained to the police and the college's anti-ragging committee, which quickly suspended the four senior doctors accused in the incident.
"Considering the assault as a case of ragging, we decided to suspend them and withhold their certificates," said Dr. Sushil Kumar Jha, Dean of Government Medical College Bhavnagar.
He said they would discuss more actions against those involved in such incidents.

In a separate case, six MBBS doctors of the same college were accused of kidnapping and assaulting three interns over an Instagram post.
Nilambaug police of Bhavnagar registered two FIRs against the six on Saturday night. Charges included kidnapping, wrongful confinement, causing hurt, intimidation, and using obscene language.
In response to the allegations, four of the six were suspended by the college's anti-ragging committee.
