Gujarat: Driving on wrong-side twice will result in license cancellation
Traffic police in Gujarat are getting serious about those who break rules and have now rolled out a strict policy. Along with the Regional Transport Office (RTO), the police have decided to blacklist those who are caught driving on the wrong side twice. Repeat offenders will face a lifetime ban and their license will be canceled immediately, reports TOI. Here's more.
An FIR for breaking rule once, cancellation for repeating offense
According to the new rule, an FIR will be registered against first-time offenders. Their papers will be put up in RTO and they could lose the license for a period, ranging from three to six months. But if the same person is caught driving on the wrong side, again, the license will be canceled and the offender will be blacklisted.
The police hope to intensify the drive soon
Notably, the police have already swung to action. On Tuesday itself, the police and RTO canceled driving licenses of seven people. DCP Traffic (West) Sanjay Kharat told TOI earlier the license was canceled if offender broke rules five times. "But with the amended traffic laws, traffic police can recommend RTO to cancel the license if the rule violator is caught in two offenses," said Kharat.
