Class 7 Gurugram student threatens teacher, her daughter with rape
A Class 7 student of a reputed private Gurugram school was suspended for allegedly threatening his teacher and her daughter with rape. Saying it has a "zero-tolerance policy towards such acts," the school announced the decision through a statement on Tuesday. A Class 8 student of the same school had reportedly asked a teacher out for dinner and sex last week. Here's more.
An offensive, highly objectionable cyber prank targeting a teacher
According to the school's statement, the suspended student was "allegedly indulging in an offensive and highly objectionable cyber prank involving a teacher". "A thorough investigation was carried out and stern action was taken, including suspension along with mandated counselling," it added. The school, however, has not disclosed whether it punished the Class 8 student, also accused of sexual misbehavior.
Gurugram child welfare committee to investigate the case
Though the Gurugram child welfare committee hasn't been informed about the case yet, it is expected to soon send the school a notice to probe the matter. According to experts, monitoring internet use among teens both at schools and homes can effectively curb such misconduct.
Are Indian schools no longer safe?
The incidents come close at the heels of the Gurugram juvenile justice board's decision to hold a 16-year-old boy under trial as an adult for allegedly killing his junior, Pradyuman Thakur. The murder of Pradyuman, a Class 2 student of Ryan International School, Gurugram, shook the nation, putting under scanner the safety of schoolchildren and highlighting the distressing trend of minors taking to crime.
