UP father, brother strangle girl for marrying different caste boyfriend
What's the story
In a horrific incident, a 23-year-old woman named Neha was allegedly killed by her father and brother in Greater Noida a day after she married her boyfriend Suraj.
The victim's family reportedly objected to her marriage on the grounds of caste. Her body was then cremated in a hurry.
Neha's husband Suraj informed the police about his wife's death, leading to the arrest of Bhanu Rathore (father) and Himanshu Rathore (brother).
Wedding aftermath
Neha's marriage leads to tragic consequences
Neha and Suraj were married at an Arya Samaj temple in Ghaziabad on March 11. They later went to the registrar's office, but were seen by Himanshu's friend.
Neha had told her family she was going to a cloth shop in Lal Kuan area, but was ordered to return home immediately.
When she returned to Chipiyana village, she argued with her family, and on Tuesday night, her father and brother strangled her in her sleep.
Truth revealed
Family's initial deception and confession
Initially, Neha's family maintained that she had died of illness. However, during sustained interrogation by police, they confessed to killing her for marrying outside their caste.
The couple had been in a relationship for six-seven years against Neha's family's wishes.
Suraj said he called his wife repeatedly on Tuesday and Wednesday but couldn't reach her.
Husband's investigation
Suraj's desperate search for Neha
When he couldn't reach Neha on phone, he called a neighbor on Wednesday, who told him about her death and the family's quick cremation. That made Suraj call the police and report the murder.
Neha was a BA student in a Ghaziabad private university, and also attended tailoring classes.
The police have registered an FIR for murder against Bhanu and Himanshu Rathore.
