Gorakhpur tragedy: Police arrest BRD Medical College oxygen supplier
Manish Bhandari, the proprietor of Pushpa Sales, which supplied oxygen to Gorakhpur's state-run BRD Medical College where dozens of children have died since August, has been arrested in the case. There have been allegations that the disrupted supply of oxygen over unpaid bills led to the deaths. However, the UP Government has "vehemently" denied the deaths occurred due to oxygen shortage. Bhandari will be produced in local court: Gorakhpur SSP
With the latest arrest in the Gorakhpur hospital deaths case, police have taken into custody all the nine persons named in the FIR. Gorakhpur Senior Superintendent of Police, Anirudh Sidhartha Pankaj, said Bhandari was arrested by Gorakhpur Police at 8 am from Deoria bypass road. The proprietor's medical examination is underway; he would be interrogated later and then produced in a local court.
Oxygen supplier absconding for long time
Police said Manish Bhandari had been absconding for a long time. On 15 Sep, he was declared an absconder by the anti-corruption court, which issued orders to attach his properties. Pushpa Sales was the former supplier of oxygen to BRD Medical College.
UP CM Adityanath constitutes committee under CS Rajive Kumar
On 23 August, the UP Chief Secretary Rajive Kumar-led committee recommended initiating criminal action against BRD Medical College's former Principal Dr. Rajiv Mishra, Head of the Anesthesia Pediatric Department Dr. Satish, 100-bed AES (Acute Encephalitis Syndrome) ward In-charge Dr. Kafeel Khan, and Pushpa Sales. UP CM Yogi Adityanath formed the committee on 12 August, a day after dozens of infant deaths were recorded.
