Golgappa, coffee samples found substandard; mustard oil misbranded in Himachal
A recent food quality investigation in Una district of Himachal Pradesh has raised concerns over the standard of local food products. The probe involved 17 food samples randomly collected from local shops and street vendors. These samples were sent to a composite testing laboratory at Kandaghat in Solan district for analysis. The results revealed that golgappa water and ready-to-serve coffee were substandard, while mustard oil was "misbranded," indicating adulteration.
Food safety violations raise concerns among consumers
Color was detected in golgappa, which is a violation of rules, officials said. In a similar incident, samples of 'rotes' sold as 'prasad' at the Baba Balak Nath temple in Deothsidh, Hamirpur district, were declared unfit for consumption. Consequently, the shop was shut down on Wednesday by the temple management and will soon be outsourced.
Government assures action against food safety violators
Jagdish Dhiman, Assistant Director of the Food Standards and Safety Wing, confirmed that "action is being taken in this regard." The state government has issued stringent instructions to the Health Department to ensure that only quality products are sold in markets, and anyone who violates the rules will be prosecuted under the law, according to officials.
