9 workers injured in blast at Goa cement block factory
Nine workers were injured, three of them seriously, in a blast at a cement block manufacturing factory at Tuem Industrial Estate this afternoon. The incident took place in Goa around 12.15 pm and led to a fire in the unit. Over a dozen workers were present at the time of the incident. The workers, who suffered grievous injuries are in a critical condition.
Critically injured workers have been admitted to GMCH hospital
Pernem police inspector Sandesh Chodankar said that the three workers, who suffered grievous injuries in the blast, were admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) near Panaji. "They are in a critical condition and are undergoing treatment," he added. Soon after the blast, personnel of the Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze.
Factory owner, management could be booked for endangering human life
The exact cause of the blast could be known after the State Factories and Boilers Department conducts an inquiry and submits a report, Chodankar said. According to him, the owner and the management of the factory could be booked for the offense of endangering human life. Tuem Industrial Estate is located 45kms from Panaji in Pernem taluka, which is situated along the Maharashtra border.
