Ghaziabad: Family robbed of valuables worth over Rs. 2.5 lakh
A trader's wife and son were held hostage by two robbers inside their home and valuables worth over Rs. 2.5 lakh were stolen in Ghaziabad's Kavi Nagar area, police said. "The incident happened on Wednesday night when two robbers wearing helmets looted cash and valuable ornaments from electrical goods shop owner Parveen Singhal's house in Shastri Nagar Colony," City SP (1st) Nipun Agarwal said.
Singhal was at the shop when the incident happened
The two unidentified assailants reached Singhal's home and pressed the doorbell. At the time, Singhal's wife Shalini and son Pranav (12) were at home while his daughter was away at a coaching center and he was at the shop. "As she opened the door, the robbers pushed her inside, closed the door, and tied her to a chair," Agarwal added.
Robbers took Pranav at knifepoint and threatened to kill him
"On hearing the commotion, Pranav came out of his room and hit them with a wiper," Shalini told the police. "They immediately took him at knifepoint and threatened to kill my son in case we raised any alarm," she added. They tied Pranav to a chair as well and asked for cash and jewelry, but Shalini didn't tell them anything.
The robbers searched the house but couldn't find anything
"The robbers searched the house. When they could not find anything, they used force and stuck adhesive tape on the lips of my son. I opened the almirah and they decamped with cash and jewelry worth over Rs. 2.5 lakh," Shalini said.
Robbers also snatched Shalini's phone and the CCTV camera
While the robbers were leaving, they snatched her mobile phone and fled the place with the CCTV camera that had recorded the footage and locked the door. Singhal tried calling his wife from his shop but her phone remained switched off. He then contacted his neighbor who reached their house and freed them. Singhal rushed home and informed the police about the incident.
Similar robbery was reported from the area on February 28
Police teams are trying to obtain the CCTV footage from outside the house. An FIR has been lodged against unknown persons under IPC Section 392 (robbery)," Agarwal told Times of India. This was the fourth robbery reported in the past nine months from the Kavi Nagar area. A similar incident was reported on February 28 when eight robbers barged into a businessman's house.
