Ghaziabad: Mob vandalizes house of Maulvi accused of raping 10-year-old
The maulvi of madrasa where a 10-year-old was allegedly raped was arrested on Friday and booked under POCSO act. According to an Indian Express report, a mob assembled at the maulvi's residence on Friday morning in Ghaziabad and vandalized it. The mob also shouted communal slogans. The maulvi's wife has moved to her parent's residence a few days ago, along with her two children.
Maulvi's wife claims her husband is innocent
The 25-year-old wife of the maulvi was quoted in Indian Express as, "It happened around 11 am when I was offering namaz at my mother's house, not far from mine. My husband is innocent, but some people and media channels are saying he has committed a crime." She claimed her husband was not around when the police recovered the victim from the madrasa.
Communal tension on rise in locality after incident
Talking about the rise of communal tension in the locality, the maulvi's wife said there was no discrimination till now. But since the incident, no Hindu neighbor has spoken to her. Saying they might relocate to their house in Bihar, she added, "They said that they will burn him (the maulvi) on the street. How can we live here now?"
Along with maulvi, juvenile too accused of raping minor
The 10-year-old victim's father registered a police complaint on March 21, when the girl went missing. The police procured CCTV footage that showed the accused juvenile taking her with him. BJP minister Manoj Tiwari met the victim's family and promised swift action. He said he would speak to UP CM Yogi Adityanath seeking a thorough investigation in the case.
