Ghaziabad: Inspired by 'Special 26', conmen pose as CBI officers
Inspired by 'Special 26', these conmen have been playing real-life Akshay Kumar for the last two months. The team of four wore khaki trousers and white shirts to pose as agents of Central Board of Investigation (CBI) and conducted fake raids. Their racket was doing well for sometime, but it was busted when Ghaziabad police caught them. Here's more about them.
Failing to join CBI, mastermind of group started conning people
The mastermind of the group was Vishal Dubey, a native of Bihar, who wanted to join premium investigation agency. After failing to clear the entrance exam, Dubey teamed up with his cousin Vivek. The duo was joined by students Rahul Sharma and Sandeep Kumar. They managed to cheat over two dozen people. They extorted money with an assurance that agency won't disturb them ever.
Interestingly, two gang members were earlier cheated by cousins
Initially, Vishal and Vivek lured unemployed youth promising them jobs at CBI. Interestingly, Rahul and Sandeep also fell prey to the cousins' con but later joined the 'team'. They hired SUV and raided houses. During one of their 'raids', the police arrested them near Samrat Hotel in Indirapuram on Friday. The conmen were headed towards Loni to cheat people.
Notably, it was a real-life incident that inspired 'Special 26'
The Indirapuram police have registered a case under IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 419 (cheating by personation) and 468 (forgery). Notably, 'Special 26' was inspired by Opera House heist in 1987 where men posing as CBI agents walked out with jewellery worth millions of rupees. The men who carried on the heist were never caught but immortalized in the movie.
