2 teens gang-raped in Delhi's Aman Vihar area
What's the story
According to police reports, two teenage girls, who work in a factory, were gang-raped by five youths in outer Delhi's Aman Vihar area on Wednesday evening. The girls, aged 18 and 17, were sitting in a government park with two male friends when the incident happened. Four of the five accused have been detained and police are trying to determine whether they were minors.

On 16 December 2012, six people gang-raped a 23-year-old girl in a moving-bus in south Delhi. In 2014, an Uber driver raped a woman on a car's back seat. In 2015, a 2.5-year-old toddler and a 5-year-old girl were gang-raped in separate incidents. On 24 July 2016, a 14-year-old Dalit victim died after being sexually assaulted and forced to drink a corrosive substance.

The incident
The incident took place around 8.30 PM near Mundka metro station when the girls and their friends were taking a walk. The 5 youths, claiming to be security guards, started misbehaving with them and when the boys objected, the accused assaulted and overpowered them. They raped the girls in front of them and threatened of dire consequences if they reported the matter to police.

DCP Vikramjit Singh said a medical examination confirmed rape and a case under sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 376 (punishment for rape) of IPC and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered. On Thursday, four of the five accused were identified and arrested. A manhunt was launched to nab the fifth accused, who reportedly led the youths.

Reacting to the incident, Congress leader from the area, Pratyush Kant, called for increased police presence since few policemen are visible in this part of Delhi. He was also quoted saying that there was an urgent need for a policing review and CCTV camera installation.
