Cyclone Gaja: CM announces jobs, solatium to electrocuted workers' kin
Tamil Nadu CM K Palaniswami today announced a solatium of Rs. 15 lakh to the families of each of the two workers of state-run power utility TANGEDCO, who were electrocuted while repairing electricity poles damaged due to cyclone Gaja. Condoling the deaths of the two workers, he said one person from each of their families would also be provided employment in a government enterprise.
The state and power company contributed to the relief fund
The two workers of the electricity monolith TANGEDCO, Shanmugam and Murgesan, were electrocuted days ago while they were restoring damaged power poles at Nagapattinam and Pudukottai districts respectively. "I have ordered the release of Rs. 15 lakh, Rs. 13 lakh from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund and Rs. 2 lakh from the TANGEDCO funds, to their families," Palaniswami said in an official release.
1,13,566 electricity poles and 1,082 transformers damaged in cyclone Gaja
As many as 1,13,566 electricity poles, 1,082 transformers, and 194 substations were damaged due to the severe cyclonic storm Gaja. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister lauded the untiring efforts of the 24,941 TANGEDCO workers involved in restoring the electricity infrastructure in the Gaja hit districts.
