The inspiring story of Rupa: From child bride to doctor
Rupa Yadav, child bride, has achieved what most others in her position can't even dream of: she cracked the NEET this time and is on her way to becoming a doctor. Rupa was married off in 1996, when she was just eight. With some help from her husband and in-laws, she continued studying and achieved her dreams. Her story is nothing less than inspiring.
Rupa was married off at 8, but continued studying
Rupa was a resident of Kareri village in Chomu, near Jaipur. Her father was a farmer and the family was financially weak. She loved to study and dreamed of becoming a doctor one day. But as is normal in those areas, when she was eight, she was married off to Shankar Lal, 12. However, she continued staying in her own house till her Class X.
Rupa managed her daughter-in-law duties along with studies
After she had moved to Shankar's place, she received her results: 84%. That's what turned the tide for her. Locals urged her in-laws to let the bright young woman continue studies. So for two years, she studied for Classes XI and XII, as well as managed daily chores at home. She passed with flying colors. The next phase was decisive.
Then her husband worked extra to finance her coaching
She admitted herself into B.Sc, but also appeared for the AIPMT exam. In that attempt, she scored 415 with AIR 23,000, but couldn't qualify for a good college. Shankar then decided to send her for special coaching in Kota. To finance her classes, he and his brother started driving autos apart from regular farming work. In 2015, a determined Rupa joined Allen Career Institute.
After two unsuccessful attempts, her dreams are now reality
In 2016, she reappeared for the exam and scored 506, but again missed a good medical college. She will try again, she decided. But this time, Allen took notice. They waived off 75% of her fees as scholarship. In 2017, she achieved AIR 2,612. Allen has decided to offer her scholarships for MBBS. Rupa has finally achieved her childhood dream despite all odds.
