Fresh murder case against Ram Rahim
In a fresh development, another murder case has been lodged against rape convict Ram Rahim Singh. The 'godman' has now been accused of murdering 22-year-old Jagsir Singh of Moga, Punjab. According to Jagsir's parents, their son was killed in the Dera Sacha Sauda Ashram after he saw suspicious activities going on. They haven't received his body yet, only his clothes, they say.
Details of the alleged crime
According to Jagsir's parents, Ram Rahim and his followers killed their son and dumped his body near the railway tracks in Bathinda. After they lodged a complaint, they have allegedly been receiving threats from Dera officials to drop the case.
Ram Rahim's adopted daughter meanwhile charged with conspiracy
Meanwhile, an FIR has also been filed against Ram Rahim's adopted daughter Honeypreet under Section 120B for conspiracy to instigate riots. Till now, though she was a suspect, no FIR had been filed. Police can now obtain an arrest warrant and initiate legal proceedings. Honeypreet has been missing since over two weeks. Cops believe she might have crossed over to Nepal.
Who else are on police's radar?
Police are on the hunt for other top Dera officials, including spokesperson Aditya Insan and Pawan Insan. Aditya has been accused of sedition. In the aftermath of the Panchkula violence, several have already been arrested, including policemen who tried to free the 'guru'.
An influential 'godman' now suffers in jail
The self-styled godman, who is now lodged in a Rohtak jail, has been accused of rapes, murders, abductions, mass castrations and more. The hearing on two murder cases related to the rapes- of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati and former Dera manager Ranjit Singh- began last week. He now languishes in a Rohtak jail, where he works as a gardener for Rs. 40 a day.
