Frenchman murdered by 'gay lover' in Tamil Nadu
The half-burnt body of a French tourist, wrapped in a gunny bag, was found in an irrigation channel in Avikkottai village of Thanjavur, TN police said today. A 29-year-old man, who police suspect is the 50-year-old man's lover, has confessed to his murder, they added. According to police, Thirumurugan had befriended M Pierre Boutier recently, but then they had an altercation after getting drunk.
Police found diary with accused's name written in it
According to The Hindu, after the body was found in the channel yesterday, police issued an announcement. Locals then tipped them off about an abandoned suitcase in Olayakunnam area. Police found that the suitcase contained Boutier's passport, a diary and ATM cards. In the diary, the name 'Thirumurugan' was mentioned. They then launched a hunt for him and questioned him.
Boutier met Thirumurugan on a visit to Mahabalipuram
After putting all pieces together, police said that Boutier had arrived in Tiruchi from Chennai on August 3. He met Thirumurugan on a visit to Mahabalipuram and the two got romantically involved. On his invitation, Boutier arrived in Avikottai. One day, while they were getting drunk, an argument broke out and Thirumurugan attacked Boutier. He died on the spot.
Thirumurugan confessed and surrendered, police said
Thirumurugan then tried to burn the body, wrapped it in a bag and dumped it into a nearby channel. After he was questioned by police, he confessed and has surrendered, cops said.
