The government is offering free coaching for JEE, NEET, NET
In a move that's likely to upset private coaching centres, the government will soon start offering free coaching classes for JEE, NEET, and UGC NET. Reportedly, the newly established National Testing Agency will convert its 2,697 testing centres into free coaching centres. These centres will reportedly be functional from September 8, and free coaching sessions will start from May 2019. Here are the details.
First, however, the NTA will offer mock tests
Once the testing centres are operational, the NTA will allow aspirants to take mock tests for JEE, NEET, and UGC NET once they register with the agency via a mobile app or its website. After taking mock tests, teachers at the NTA's centres will help aspirants analyze their results, in addition to helping aspirants strengthen their concepts and realize mistakes.
Details about registering for the NTA's mock tests
For the time being, however, it should be noted that the NTA will conduct mock tests for JEE Mains only, which is slated to take place in January 2019. For registrations, the NTA will launch its app, and open its website from September 1.
The teaching component of the NTA will benefit many
The free teaching component will be rolled out only after the first set of examinations have been completed, and is expected to start from May 2019 onwards. According to HRD ministry officials, candidates from rural and semi-urban backgrounds will benefit from the free coaching. Indeed, with private coaching centres charging the moon, free coaching has the potential to benefit many from low-income households.
The centres will help talented people with financial constraints
"They [the coaching centres] will not charge any fees and so will be especially helpful for talented students from sections where aspirations are high but private coaching is impossible due to financial constraints," said an official from the HRD Ministry.
