Four soldiers including army officer killed in ceasefire violation
Four security personnel including a 22-year-old army officer were killed in Pakistani shelling in Tarkundi and Sunderbani areas of Rajouri district, J&K, yesterday evening. "The Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectively and heavy damage has been inflicted on Pakistani Army Posts," it said in a statement. This takes the number of casualties in Pakistani ceasefire violation this year to 17.
A BSF jawan and two children injured in Poonch
Yesterday, Pakistani forces started shelling in the morning in Shahpur of Poonch, then expanded their range to Balakote in Mendhar and Manjakote in Rajouri district by the evening. The four martyrs have been identified as Captain Kapil Kundu, six days away from turning 23, Rifleman Ramavatar, Rifleman Subham Singh and Havilder Roshan Lal. Unusually high number of ceasefire violations this year
There have been over 160 ceasefire violations this year, a record high. More than 60 people have been injured and dozens of homes damaged. Usually, such incidents remain low during winter. This time, the Indian Army has also proactively targeted Pakistani posts. All 84 schools in the border areas, from Subderbani to Manjakote in Rajouri, have been shut for the next three days.
