Long jams in Delhi as traffic restrictions implemented for R-Day
As traffic restrictions ahead of Republic Day were enforced in Delhi, jams erupted at various places. Today was a full dress rehearsal for the January 26 parade from Vijay Chowk towards Red Fort. As a result, all parallel roads in Central Delhi remained congested. Citizens should brace for more such disruptions till Friday. Find more details here about which routes to avoid.
Restrictions on traffic, metro services today due to dress rehearsal
For today's program, the stretch from Vijay Chowk to India Gate on Rajpath, Fari Marg, Janpath, Man Singh Road, C-Hexagon India Gate, Tilak Marg, BSZ Marg and Netaji Subhash Marg remained shut. Metro services were also partially curtailed: boarding/de-boarding at Kendriya Sachivalaya, Udyog Bhawan, Race Course Road and Patel Chowk stations remained suspended till 12pm.
2km long traffic jams in some places
Jams broke out in prominent stretches. There were 2km-long lines at ITO, Akshardham to Nizamuddin, Ashram to Delhi-Noida-Delhi flyover, NH-24 and Pusa Road. Scenes were similar between Punjabi Bagh to Rajouri Garden after a truck broke down near ESI Hospital. "Even in areas like Mayur Vihar-I and III, Karol Bagh, Rajendra Nagar, Ranhola to Najafgarh," restrictions caused half-hour delays or longer, an official said.
Keep an eye out for a fresh advisory for R-Day
Heads of 10 countries are headed to Delhi for the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit on Thursday and the R-Day parade on Friday. They will visit the Taj Palace Hotel on Sardar Patel Marg and Rashtrapati Bhavan. On Wednesday-Thursday, no route will be completely closed for public, but there might be temporary restrictions to facilitate the VIPs' movement. A fresh advisory will be issued for Friday.
