Former Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat injured in road accident
Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat reportedly suffered a chest injury after his car hit a divider in Bazpur. The accident took place around 12:15am on Tuesday, News18 reported. Rawat's Personal Security Officer (PSO), along with other officials, suffered injuries to their hands and head. Rawat was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him out of danger.
Rawat was in Kashipur to attend press conference
Rawat, a five-time member of the Parliament and a senior Congress leader, was in Uttarakhand's Kashipur to attend a press conference, Amar Ujala reported. Following the mishap, Rawat took to X to confirm that he was fine and "there was no need to be worried." "I am absolutely fine and so are my colleagues," the 75-year-old leader wrote.

Per News18, after he complained of chest pain, doctors conducted a computed tomography (CT) scan on him. It is pertinent to note that in February, he was admitted to Max Hospital in Dehradun due to his deteriorating health conditions. He was protesting against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttarakhand when he fainted.
Rawat first became an MLA in 2014
Rawat first became an MLA in 2014 after winning the by-elections from the Dharchula constituency in Pithoragarh district. In the 2022 Uttarakhand Assembly Elections, Rawat contested from Lalkuan but lost to the BJP's Mohan Singh Bisht by 17,527 votes. That was his fourth election from a new seat. According to the Hindustan Times, Rawat has contested Lok Sabha polls nine times.
