Veteran journalist and environmental activist Darryl D'Monte dies at 74

Senior journalist and environmental activist Darryl D'Monte, who worked with leading English dailies like The Times of India and Indian Express, died at a hospital in Mumbai after a brief illness, a family friend said today. He was 74. D'Monte was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital in suburban Bandra sometime back where he breathed his last on Saturday evening, his friend said. Here's more.

D'Monte served as the resident editor of TOI, Indian Express

In a career spanning several decades, D'Monte served as the resident editor of Mumbai editions of The Times of India and The Indian Express. Besides a career in journalism, he had a keen interest in environmental issues and took some initiatives for the cause. D'Monte had served as the chairperson of the Forum of Environmental Journalists of India (FEJI).

D'Monte co-founded the International Federation of Environmental Journalists in Germany

In 1993, D'Monte, along with 27 other journalists, co-founded the International Federation of Environmental Journalists (IFEJ) in Dresden, Germany. As the news of D'Monte's death broke, several prominent journalists and authors took to social media and penned down their heartfelt tributes to him.
