Our son's a pilot, thanks to Rahul Gandhi: Nirbhaya's mother
When 23-year-old Nirbhaya was brutally raped on a December'12 night, her brother Aman (name changed) went into shock. He was a young Class 12 student then who dreamt of joining the military. Then entered Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. "Rahul was the one who counseled him and motivated him to achieve something," his mother Asha says. Now he's a pilot, ready to fly.
Rahul sponsored Aman's education and was a constant support
After Nirbhaya's brutal rape-murder, Aman lost two years of studies as they attended numerous court hearings. Rahul offered to sponsor his education. In 2013, Aman cleared the CBSE exams and joined Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi in Rae Bareli, Sonia Gandhi's constituency. He planned to prepare for the army recruitment exam, but couldn't manage both courses simultaneously. Rahul was the one who motivated him.
Even Priyanka kept in regular touch
"Rahul asked him to pursue a pilot's training course," his mother said, and kept calling regularly while he studied. "Even after he completed studies, he called him to find out about his training-cum-job." Not just Rahul, even Priyanka calls to enquire about their well-being. Now Aman is undergoing the final flying training with an airline in Gurugram.
Five years after Nirbhaya's rape, her family awaits justice
Meanwhile, Nribhaya's youngest brother is currently studying engineering in a Pune institute. Their father is a permanent employee at the Delhi Airport's Terminal 3. Their mother is presently dealing with the DCW over why her rapists haven't been hanged five months after the SC order.
