Dr. Prathap C Reddy, founder of Apollo Hospitals Group
Dr. Prathap Chandra Reddy, a renowned cardiologist, is one of the most famous doctors-turned-entrepreneurs in India. He is the founder and chairman of the Apollo Hospitals Group, India's first corporate chain of hospitals that introduced international quality healthcare; it was established in 1983. Reddy, acknowledged widely as the "architect of modern Indian healthcare," was also honored with Padma Bhushan (1991) and Padma Vibhushan (2010).
Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, founder of Narayana Health
Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, a reputed cardiac surgeon, is another popular doctor-turned-entrepreneur in India. He is the founder and chairman of Narayana Health (formerly known as Narayana Hrudayalaya), a chain of multi-specialty hospitals, heart centers, and primary care facilities, established in Bengaluru in 2000. He was awarded the Padma Shri (2004) and Padma Bhushan (2012) for his contributions to affordable healthcare in the country.
Dr. Sabahat Azim, founder of Glocal Healthcare Systems
Dr. Syed Sabahat Azim, a doctor and a former IAS officer, is a healthcare entrepreneur. Dr. Azim, a 2000-batch IAS officer, is the founder and CEO of Glocal Healthcare Systems. It was incorporated in 2010 and is based in Kolkata. Glocal Healthcare Systems aims to make quality healthcare services accessible to the rural population by setting up low-cost yet efficient hospitals.
