What's the story

In our country, Chartered Accountancy (CA) is among the most prestigious and toughest professional courses.

It is a respected profession, and after clearing the CA course, some candidates even choose to pursue civil services in India. There are several well-known CAs who went on to become Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers.

Here are five CAs turned IAS officers to know about.

Ruchika Katyal is a CA turned IAS officer

Ruchika Katyal is a Chartered Accountant turned IAS officer who is currently the joint secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena.

She is a 2013-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, and Mizoram Union Territories) cadre.

She secured AIR-5 in the 2012 UPSC CSE in her second attempt. Notably, she had also secured AIR-3 in her CA Final examination.

#2: IAS officer Navneet Sehgal of Uttar Pradesh cadre

Navneet Sehgal, a Chartered Accountant who later became an IAS officer, is currently serving as the additional chief secretary of Sports and Youth Welfare under the Government of Uttar Pradesh. He is an IAS officer of the 1988 batch from the Uttar Pradesh cadre.

About Chartered Accountant-turned-IAS officer R Rangarajan

R Rangarajan, a Chartered Accountant and Cost Accountant, is a former 2005-batch IAS officer of the Assam cadre. He secured AIR-45 in CSE-2004 on his first attempt.

However, in 2019, he quit the IAS to join politics and contested as a Lok Sabha candidate for Chennai South Constituency from the Makkal Needhi Maiam.

He is the associate director of Officers IAS Academy in Chennai.

Praveen Garg, IAS officer of MP cadre

Praveen Garg is also a CA turned IAS officer. He is a retired IAS officer of the 1998 batch from the Madhya Pradesh cadre.

Before pursuing the CA course from the ICAI, he completed the Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in Accounting and Finance from Delhi University.

He is currently the president of Mobius Foundation in Delhi (per his LinkedIn profile).
