Ghaziabad: Dalit man, witness in father's murder case, shot dead

In a suspected caste enmity caste, five bike-borne assailants shot dead a 40-year-old Dalit man at Naifal village in Ghaziabad.
The victim, Mahendra, was the prime witness in murder case of his father Sahib Ram, who was also shot dead on February 12, 2009, during victim's wedding procession.
The "higher caste" people were opposing the procession, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vaibhav Krishna.

Accused were preventing Mahendra from testifying against them
The incident took place when the victim Mahendra was returning to his home after parking vehicle on a private school premises.
In a bid to prevent Mahendra from testifying against accused, they shot him dead, the SSP said.
The family members of the victim have identified the accused.
Few days ago, the accused also threatened him not to give evidence in his father's case.
