Mumbai: At least 12 killed in Sakinaka fire
At least 12 people, mostly laborers, were killed and several others critically injured when a major fire broke out in a shop in Mumbai's Sakinaka today. IE reports all 12 were declared dead on arrival at Rajawadi Hospital. The blaze reportedly erupted in the early morning hours, when most inside the building on Khairani road were sleeping. They didn't get a chance to escape.
Items in shop caused the blaze to spread quickly
The cause of the fire is still unknown. The fire department said it had been limited to the "ground floor structure in an area 60×30 fts. The said structure had partly collapsed." Electrical wiring and other installation in the shop, as well as raw materials for making farsan, caused the fire to spread quickly. The dead haven't yet been identified. Rescue operations are on.
