Fire destroys powerloom factory in Maharashtra's Bhiwandi town
A powerloom factory was gutted in a major fire that broke out in Bhiwandi town of Maharashtra's Thane district in the wee hours of Saturday, an official said. "The blaze erupted around 3 am at the factory located in Sonibai Compound of Dhamankar Naka area," Santosh Kadam, Chief of the Thane Municipal Corporation's Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) said.
No casualty was reported in the incident
"However, no casualty was reported in the incident," the police official said. On being alerted about the incident, firefighters of the Bhiwandi Nizampur City Municipal Corporation rushed to the spot. One fire vehicle and a water tanker of the force were present at the spot. The firefighters took more than two hours to douse the flames.
The powerloom factory has been totally destroyed: Kadam
"No one was injured in the fire. However, the powerloom factory was totally destroyed," Kadam said. "The cause of the fire was not yet known," he added. Financial loss from the fire is estimated to be in lakhs.
Similar fire incidents that occurred in Bhiwandi
On Friday, another powerloom unit situated on Naigaon Road in the town was gutted in a devastating fire. Similar incidents were also reported last year where a fire broke out in the MIDC area of Bhiwandi and a dyeing company cum godown in the town. Bhiwandi is known as a powerloom hub and has the largest number of handlooms and powerlooms in the country.
